SDL’s engineers are continuously developing their hydraulic joystick steering systems for people with severe disabilities (such as thalidomide, tetraplegia and muscular dystrophy) where strength and range of movement is so restricted that using a steering wheel is not possible. The latest development combines the steering system with electric brake and accelerator (operated by push buttons) in a ‘tiller’ or ‘bicycle’ format. The addition of ‘position feedback’ has enabled SDL to uniquely obtain European Homologation for this steering system.
